Wangering Carollers
I become quite sentimental during the holidays. I tear up during any and all Christmas movies, when I see Santa and his elves at the Mall, while writing Christmas cards and as my bank account drains.
This past weekend my friend helped me pick out my Christmas tree. It was her first tree lot adventure. She did not disappoint – she was professional, enthusiastic and patient as she held my ‘maybe’ trees while I continued to search. I can see why celebrities enjoy having a personal assistant.
We selected a short and plump tree with a lot of character and attitude. Just how I like my Santa Claus.
I had a lovely Monday evening decorating my tree with eggnog in hand, Christmas music in ear and peacefulness since no one could judge me for the amount of times I restrung the lights.
I’m admiring my lit tree as I’m writing this and tears are forming…
It’s clear I tear up often, but today it was out of pure hilarity.
In 3 Golden Rings, the 12 Days of Christmas Carol was picked apart. Today, I’m not sure what Christmas Carol I had on my mind.
Creating the monthly resident recreation calendar is always painful. I can proof read forwards and backwards, compare with the other Recreation Therapist and perfectly place the clip art photos, but without a doubt, I always make an error.
I completed the December calendar at the end of the day, which set me up for disaster, but I wasn’t the only one to make an error…
The other Recreation Therapist kindly informed me that she noticed the error, but I chose not to fret about it and assumed everyone would put two and two together.
When I walked into work, I was asked to go look at the whiteboard where the list of daily activities are listed.
It claimed that at 2:00pm there would be “Wangering Carollers.” You know, that well known carol, “here we come a wangering.”
There are three things I gathered from this error:
- This could have easily been the name of a musical performer
- It’s nice to know that the Unit Clerk does not question anything I put on the calendar
- I need to get my head out of the gutter
I found 2 definitions of “wangering”:
- rest or cushion for the cheek – also known as a pillow
- a male’s well, wang… sorry, there was no other way I wanted to define that
There is such a thing as pillow talk – so I guess there could be pillow carolling, but for the other definition, I got nothin’.
I’m surprised I haven’t received any phone calls from concerned/curious family members. Although, the carollers did go out with a bang!
I have a feeling that this will be an ongoing joke at the facility for many holiday seasons to come.
