Ice Breaker
Just when you think you’ve escaped the dreaded cafe table pressure in high school, you begin a new job…
There are so many uncertainties when starting a new job. Will the coffee in the cafe be any good? Will I connect with my coworkers? Most importantly, will my coworkers find me funny?
I like to believe that if you’re not having fun at your job, you should find a new job, but if you are having too much fun at your job, you are probably doing something illegal.
Creating a professional, yet silly at times work atmosphere is important to me, which is why I do not waste any time showcasing my true colours…
In Screw It, I found goodies in my purse. Today, I almost lost all of my goodies.
I recently started a new position at a building that hasn’t even opened yet. On my second day I pulled up to work and climbed out of my vehicle with my purse, work bag and to-go coffee mug.
Perhaps investing in one bag would help with my balance…
I took one step onto the sidewalk and biffed it. I biffed it hard. My two feet went up so high in the air, I looked like Charlie Brown trying to kick a football.
Just as I was going down, a vehicle pulled up behind and shined their headlights on me as though I was the main act.
I crawled towards the grass with some dignity knowing that I had not spilt a single drop of coffee.
The driver jumped out of her car and hollered, “are you okay!?”
The driver just so happened to be the other Recreation Therapist that I will now be working alongside…
In the middle of my laughter I reassured her that I was just fine. A tad bruised [ego], but fine.
I expected her to learn that I was clumsy quite quickly, but I didn’t think it would be this quickly.
It seems as though I’ve already broke the ice at the new job.
