Hi Ho Off To Work We Go

Riverdale is the latest must-see drama series on Netflix. It follows the well known high schoolers – Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. A little darker take on the comic series I will admit, but just as addicting and  vibrant – Archie’s hair jumps out of the television as it did off of the pages, but he is MUCH dreamier than the cartoon version.

Another dark, but colourful cartoon that comes to mind is Snow White and lately I have been feeling as though I can relate to her. Now I’m not comparing myself to her even though I have a tendency to talk to animals, have a killer singing voice and enjoy the occasional apple, but mostly because I would compare the construction men on the site to the dwarfs.

These men are taller and much better looking, but they all wear hats, some have beards, glasses, charm, various personalities and sing on the job.

A few weeks ago the sliding doors at the main entrance of the building were not working properly. In the evenings, the doors would open, but would not close… the open door policy would sure fill the building quicker.

To resolve the issue we contacted “the door man” or so that’s the title displayed on his truck. I pictured a doorman with a Sheriff-type hat, wearing a trench coach, but this was far from the case. He was simply an average man who fixes doors.

Not long after he started, he climbed up his ladder when suddenly his screwdriver slipped out of his hand.

The screwdriver came down and tapped the edge of the glass, shattering the window, which is truly a one in a million chance (he should have gone and purchased a lottery ticket after such luck – it may have increased his spirits).

It took every once of my being not to burst out laughing, but I could tell he was flustered.

After he had relaxed, replaced the window with a temporary board and accomplished what he set out to do, he showed off his finished product with pride. I declared, “wow, you did something right today!”

With a smile he replied, “ouch.” Too soon?

Before he left, he needed to have a quick word with our maintenance supervisor, so I kindly offered to go grab him.

He stated, “you know, you’re doing such a bang up job of sitting behind the desk and doing nothing, you just stay put.” (He didn’t have to tell me twice!)

He was not aware that I was feeling so much joy from the incident simply because none of it was my doing.

I think we are a match made in heaven.

Hey there. I’m Rachelle. I’m a Saskatchewan girl living in an Albertan world. I enjoy the simple things in life like all you can eat sushi, that spiral brush on my eyebrows and freshly vacuumed carpet. I’m a Recreation Therapist and my day is about as predictable as my curls. The people I’ve had the pleasure of working with and my own clumsiness has resulted in some pretty entertaining stories. This blog is simply a place to share those stories and hopefully bring a smile to your face too.
