Morning Coffee Fuel
Like most things, the health effects of drinking coffee is controversial. So was the Heard-Depp trial and we still indulged in that…
According to The Morning Mind by Dr. Rob Carter III and Dr. Kirti Carter, it is important to drink at least 16 ounces of water as soon as we wake up to help keep our brain running smoothly.
They also state that we receive a natural chemical boost of cortisol in the morning. Therefore, the best time to consume coffee is after this natural stimulant has worn off which is around 9:30am.
9:30am!? By that time I’m already thinking about what I’m going to have for lunch.
I remember in University one of my roommates who is an absolutely lovely woman, was not so lovely until she had her morning coffee. When she woke up and entered the kitchen, we all parted like the Red Sea to ensure she had easy access to the coffee machine. We never would have survived until 9:30am.
The Carters (not to get confused with Jay-Z and Beyoncé), also suggest a variety of activities to complete in the morning to boost brain power. Such as: essential oils, nourishing foods and meditation to name a few.
But you know what I’ve found goes best with a cup of coffee in the morning to boost brain power? Another cup of coffee.
However, most people do believe that caffeine helps increase alertness in the morning. Apparently so does a little bump and grind (and not the kind you’re thinking)…
In Can you Hear me Now? Not Good, I was accidentally heard. Today, I was accidentally hit (I think it was accidental).
Driving to work can be a Zen experience or it can be a blood pressure on the rise experience. It all depends on how you react to various situations and most importantly, how other people drive.
Living in a large city, I am lucky to have a 10 minute commute to work. I rarely encounter any accidents, traffic jams or a full radio show (I’m sure I just jinxed my next morning commute), but not all driving frustrations occur on the road…
I was on my way to work one day when I was confronted with my usual morning stressor – do I have time to stop at Tim Horton’s to grab a coffee? For the sake of others, yes.
It seemed I was not the only one who had this thought as I pulled into the parking lot. The drive thru line was twisting and turning like Harry Styles’ dance moves. For most people, this would deter them from waiting, but for me, I wanted it more. So I awkwardly pulled up behind a red mini van and hoped they weren’t the type of people who orders 5 meals in the drive thru.
Mere seconds later, the reverse lights shone on that vehicle ahead of me. This was not the kind of spotlight I wanted.
As predicted, the mini van began to roll towards me, but by the time I honked, she had already made contact. This rambunctious mini van then continued to reverse, as well as turn her wheel which resulted in scraping across the front and partially down the side of my vehicle. I was in such disbelief that I began to laugh out loud.
The driver then approached my vehicle and apologized stating she thought she could scrape by.
Oh you scraped by, alright.
She then began to return to her vehicle when I exclaimed, “oh excuse me. I am going to need your information to claim the damage on my vehicle.”
I was tempted to mention that a coffee would help with the blow as well.
Once we exchanged information, she sped off and I pulled into a parking stall to take a breath and naturally, text my Mom.
Coffee may wake some people up, but I was caffeine-free that morning and it was the most alert I’ve ever been.
